A good war-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written in pencil by Pvt. John W. Boston, Co. G, 81st Ohio Vols, Atlanta, Ga., July 18, 1864 concerning fighting towards Atlanta, reading, in part: "…we are on our advance to Atlanta, this is the second days march from the river and we have not found very many Rebels but we may come onto some before many days. I think that they are either in Atlanta or at the Stone Mountains some 9 miles from there. The 15th Army Corp is on our left and the 4th on our right. The 19th Corps is on the route for the mountains at the present there is only 1 Division of Rebels there…". The original stamped cover is included.
