War-date Union soldier's letter, 1p. 8vo, written in pencil on back half of a muster roll by Pvt. John W. Boston, Co. G, 81st Ohio Vols, Camp near Alexandria, Va., May 22, 1865, reading, in part: "...I think I will be with you in the course of a week or 2. Sherman's Army is to be reviewed at Washington...and then in a few days we will start for Ohio...the sixty two men are those that their term of service will expire by the 31st of October are to be immediately mustered out of the service and the rest will be retained so you see that we will be along soon...". Boston enlisted, at age 29, in late summer 1862 and fought at the battles of Corinth, Atlanta and Bentonville, N. C. He lived to 1918 dying August of that year. VG.
