A very rare earlyReconstruction-era Provisional Governor of Alabama pre-printed letter sheetaddressed to President Andrew Johnson, 1p. 4to., by LEWIS ELIPHALETPARSONS adding title as provisional Governor, Executive Department ofAlabama, Montgomery, August 26, 1865. In part: "...I take great pleasure in endorsing the recommendation of Mr. Wheelan for the officer of District attorney for the Southern District of Ala. I cordially adopt the terms in which he isrecommended by James Q. Smith...". Parsons (1817-1895) was an Alabama attorney and state senator during the war. He became Alabama's nineteenth governor being appointed by Johnson on June 21, 1865 and served until Decemberof that year. Light soiling else very good.
