Pair of Union solder's letters, totaling 4pp., 8vo., written in ink by Pvt. Leander W. Leach, 2nd Rhode Island Vols., Camp near Petersburg, Va., March 2 thru 9, 1865. In part: "...I got my box Saturday night I was on guard at the time...I came in and the new boots and shirts I put on, all the pies and cakes were good but I could not find any stamps...there is a fellow in company F by the name of George Lyndal but he did not kill anyone. I have just come off picket ...I guess that fight you spoke about was Hatchers Run but our army did not get drove back nor whipped. We advanced our lines about 3 miles...". VG.
