HARTRANFT, JOHN F. (1830 - 1889) Union major general who received a Medal of Honor for his bravery at Bull Run. Partly-printed Document Signed “J.F. Hartranft” and “Jno. W. Geary” as Governor of Pennsylvania, 1p. oblong folio, January 1, 1872, and reads in part: “...This is to Certify that Christian Miller has on file in the office of the auditor general a duly approved and registered claim for the sum of Three Hundred and forty two dollars as adjudicated under the act, entitled ‘An Act to authorize the liquidation of damages sustained by citizens of Pennsylvania during the late rebellion,’ and payable only when said claims shall be paid by the United States government...” Fine.
