A great post-war ca. 1885 souvenir book containing a multitude of dried and pressed wild flowers. The interior title page, reads "Wild Flowers from Lookout Mountain and the battlefields of Missionary Ridge and Chickamauga. Arranged by Mrs. D. H. Rains Chattanooga". A gold ribbon attaches the celluloid covers of this 7" x 9" album that contains many fitting manuscript poems by Whittier, Tennyson, Emerson and other poets in order to divide wild flowers, such as; fern from Lookout Mountain, daisies & grasses from Missionary Ridge, larkspur from Orchard Knob, yarrow & coxcomb from Chickamauga, fern & artillery plant from Chickamauga and golden rod & maid hair fern from Bragg's headquarters. A typeset epilogue by Mrs. Rains reads, in small part: "These flowers were gathered from the grounds whereon were fought the battles Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge and Chickamauga these 'dead relics treasured here' will doubtless recall to every one soldier who upon them 'many a story of past hours' in camps or near the spots mentioned it is to the memory of all the brave wearers of Blue and Gray that this little souvenir is dedicated". Overall very good.
