A great three volume set of books, entitled: "New York at Gettysburg," owned by Pvt. George F. Brockway, Cowan's battery, 1st New York Light Artillery. The high tide of the Confederacy ebbed when Pickett's Charge climaxed after attempting to capture Cowan's battery at the "Angle" in the center of the Union lines at Gettysburg. In the attempt the Confederate infantry was blown to oblivion when they charged while within point blank range of the muzzles of Cowan's guns. The full title of the books is: "Final report on the Battlefield of Gettysburg, "published by Lyon & Company, Albany, 1902. On page 1268 of volume three Brockway initials the page and indicates that this is his battery…PLUS; ca. 1903 transmittal cover addressed: "Geo. F. Brockway…Iowa." Usual wear to cover, minor foxing, else very good.
