FESS, Simeon (1861-1936) Ohio congressman an out-spoken anti-drinking advocate who gave the keynote speech at the 1928 Republican National Convention. A good group of three T.L.S.'s "Simeon D. Fess" on Senate letterhead, dated March 20, 1933, Aug. 10, 1934 and Sept. 4, 1934 respectively, concerning the "beer bill" and his opposition to the repeal of the 18th Amendment and the Volstead Act. In small part: "...I have a record of 40 years of opposition to the American saloon...I stated...that there wasn't any doubt that the 18th Amendment would be repealed and I expressed regret that that would be done...". Overall very good to near fine.
