WALWORTH, Reuben Hyde (1788-1867) American jurist and politician. He was for a long period president of the American Temperance Union. He was also vice-president of the Bible Society and the Tract Society. The University of Princeton gave him the degree of LL.D. in 1835. He was the author of Rules and Orders of the New York Court of Chancery (Albany, 1829; several revised eds.), and Hyde Genealogy (2 vols., 1864).Document Signed, “R Hyde Walworth” 1p. 9”x11”, parchment, September 2, 1853, and reads in small part: “...Know Ye That George Case having been duly examined and regularly admitted as a Counsellor in the Court of Chancery of the State of New York in this Present Term of August in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty-Eight I do hereby Authorize & Licence the said George Case to appear in the said Court...” With seal. VG.
