Zachary Taylor (1784-1850) Twelfth President of the United States, "Old Rough and Ready" was also a hero of the Mexican War, taking Monterrey and defeating Santa Anna. Fine content L.S., 2pp. 4to., written in ink by a certain "D. Butler" Little Rock, Arsenal, [Ark.], Nov. 28, 1845 to Gen. Zachary Taylor presenting him with a war-horse, reading, in part: "...I am authorized...by Col. Wm. Wynn of Lafayette Co., Arkansas...to say to you that he has a horse of the best blood in the U. S. called `Rocky Mountain' which he has...designed presenting to you as a token of his esteem and respect for you as a citizen and a soldier...if you accept the offer, I will take the liberty of suggesting that you request Morehead Wright...son in law of the late Gov. Fulton to employ some man...to take charge of the horse and deliver him at your camp..." Some light toning, else very good.
