BRADDOCK, James J. (1905-1974) American boxer and Heavyweight champion of the world from 1935-37. Braddock was an outstanding amateur and power-punching fighter whose fragile hands derailed his career. Because he was tough and could take a punch, he continued to fight with severely damaged hands until, ultimately, he was banned in several jurisdictions. After his retirement, Jim and manager Joe Gould enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1942 where they became officers. Before the war ended, Braddock served on the island of Saipan. Upon return, he helped construct the Verrazano Bridge and worked as a marine equipment surplus supplier, running generators and welding equipment. Damon Runyon dubbed him the "Cinderella Man" because of his fairy-tale comeback and his win over Max Baer. He was elected to the Ring Boxing Hall of Fame in 1964 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2001. Braddock was featured in the recent movie "Cinderella Man" starring Russell Crowe. Program from The Lambs Club Dinner & Party in honor of Returned Officers and Men held Oct. 11, 1944. Numerous signatures allover the front and back covers, most' notably that of “Capt. Jm Braddock, on back panal.
