Partially Printed Crew List. Privateer Brig Adventure, bound from Wilmington, North-Carolina, for St. Bartholomew, W.I. (West Indies), 12" x 15-1/2," Wilmington, NC., Dec. 3, 1812, partially printed on both sides, North Carolina seal present, VG. There are four men named with complete information including, place of birth, residence, Height, Colour of Eyes, Colour of Hair, Complexion, Age. All four men who are described are African American, two noted as having black eyes and two having dark eyes, two having black hair and two having wooly hair, two having black complexions and two having dark malato complexions, all between 19 and 27 years old, and residing in Baltimore. In addition there is a fifth listing, "Nathan Slave," with no particulars.The reverse specifically mentions that proof of citizenship is required under "An Act for the relief and protection of American Seamen," addressing to one of the proximate issues that brought us to war a second time with England in 1812, impressment of seamen. Three of the crew are certified as citizens of the United States.
