Joseph Davis Silver (1818-1867) was a plantation owner and signer of the Alabama Ordinance of Secession. According to the 1860 Federal Slave Schedule, Baldwin Co., AL, Silver owned 67 slaves. Pre-Printed Salve Receipt, 3" x 8," pre-printed and filled out in manuscript, fine. Issued by "Davis, Deupree & Co," Richmond, Va., February 28, 1861 receipt to "Jos. Silver," in the amount of "Ten Hundred, and fifty Dollars," for "one Negro Slave named Sam."
