Hetzel requires your certificate to my per diem account for last summer. You will oblige me much by sending it - the account includes 72 days from the 17th of June to the 27 August. Very respectfully, Your truly, J.E. Johnston, U.S.T.E. Corps." Johnston was given charge of the Topographical Bureau in 1841. Captain Abner Hetzel died in the Mexican War in 1847.
