A war-date Confederate soldier's letter by Sgt. Leonard Williams, signed "L. Williams," Hampton Legion, 2nd South Carolina Cavalry, 2pp. 4to., ink, Columbia, SC., April 26, 1864, in part, "Auntie is hear, had a pleasant trip down ... had I known your Aunt Matte was not coming down I would by all means have insisted on your coming ... We have rec'd no orders yet & cannot tell how long we may yet remain here but hope we will not be removed for some 10 days .. I would be glad if you would come down on Friday if you are not suffering too much with cold... have Ned come home every night and stay on the premises while you are away ... You must borrow enough money from Mr. Whitman to pay your expenses ..."
