A war-date Confederate soldier's letter by Sgt. Leonard Williams, unsigned, Hampton Legion, 2nd South Carolina Cavalry, 4pp. 4to., pencil, Chisholmville, SC, Oct 21, 1864, incomplete. In part, "... our army needs strengthening & if all detailed men are sent in, it will add I expect 100,000 men to our forces. I am pleased with the proceedings of the meeting of our Mr. Boyle's constituents in Columbia on the subject of his letter to Mr. Davis, they administer a just & deserved rebuke which I hope will put a quietis to all such politicians. ... I feel poor indeed and know you are needing a great many things & and I am living on a meager share of the necessities of life. I see it, know it, but can not help it...."
