War-date civilian letter by Sheppard Houston, 2pp. 4to., on The Mutual Life Insurance Company stationery, New York, Apr. 11, 1862 with stamped cover. "...Father gave me a ticket for the welcome to the officers and men of the Cumberland and Congress. I never saw a more enthusiastic audience. I am sure you would have enjoyed seeing the noble fellows who have fought so gallantly for their country. We had three or four songs with Choursses from the crews which were exceedingly well received...Father has asked me to come out and spend Sunday at Englewood, but I am anxious to hear Dr. Adams as the day you know has been set apart by the President as one of Thanksgiving for our recent victories..."
