A good war-date Union officer's letter written by Lt. Frederick Pringey, Co. E, 3rd Potomac Maryland Home Guard, 4p. octavo, on patriotic stationery, June 11, 1862, Petersburg, Hardie County, [West] Virginia, and reads in part: "...The boys are generally well. H.L. Benson has got the glanders, Conrad Rayman is complaining of a pain in his side, a few of the others have bad colds. The force at this place is about 3000. The 61 Ohio started from here to Moorfield after marching about 10 miles their orders was countermanded and they are going to make a stand at this place...We have had news from Freemont today, he is giving [Stonewall] Jackson his long deservings. We are drawed up in line of battle every few days. You requested me to let you know where L. Smith is he is wagoning for our regiment...R.C. Crooks is assistant quartermaster in our Regt. Dr. J. Beerbrower is one of our sergeants" VG.
