Morgan, of Virginia, President of the Graduating Class of the University of Maryland, by his Fellow Students" 1862, with the original version of Maryland which reads in small part: "...They come! they come! with might tread,/ Maryland, my Maryland./ But death is o'er their pathway spread,/ Maryland, my Maryland./ See the Southern banner wave!/ See the arms so strong and brave!/ And hear the shout they wildly gave/ For Maryland, my Maryland...."
