Autograph Letter Signed by a Sutler working with the 116th New York, 4p. octavo, Martinsburg, Virginia, September 10, 1863, and reads in part: "..Just one year ago today we commenced the sutlering for the 116th Regt. & I do not see as it is any better to day than it was then. We have sold a great many good but never have collected over ten or eleven thousand dollars altogether. I do not suppose that the indebtedness of the Regt to Armstrong & Hollister is one cent less than four thousand & I have not heard as many as ten me in the regt say that they allowed to pay him. We have not a very good trade now as the boys are all expecting pay soon. Some of the boys have got as much as 45 & fifty & there is 52 coming to them this pay day...there is over 500 men now in the regt..." More about cards, etc. VG.
