Pair of Civil War documents, includes: Signed statement by L.B. Maney, 1-1/2p. quarto, and reads "In the claim for Commissary Supplies I cannot state the name, rank & regt of the officer or officers taking them. They were taken the first three nights after the battles around Nashville on the retreat of the rebel army from that place, by the pursuing Federal forces. They came in & camped around me after night had set in, & there were men & officers of so many different Divisions Brigades & Regts passing to & fro, that it was impossible for me to ascertain anything correctly, concerning the persons taking these supplies. That they were taken for the use of the U.S. Army I do not doubt, but cannot state positively the name of the officer taking them, or ordering them to betaken on the night Dec. 17th Gen. Wood comdg. the Fourth Corps had his Hd. Qrs. with me & next morning after going out & seeing & learning something of my losses the night before, he instructed Col. Fullerton of the Fourth Corps Staff to tell me that if I would make a statement of the losses I had ascertained the preceding night, & forward it to him when his Hd Qrs should be established at Pulaski or further South, he would approve it & recommend it for payment...." Fair...plus; Manuscript Document Signed, "Walter Myers 1st Lt. and Post Adjut." 1p. folio, Head Quarters U.S. Forces, Franklin, Tennessee, December 28, 1863, being Special Orders No. 25, and reads "A raid having been made by Capt. Thos. F. Perkins commanding a band of citizens and soldiers, on the Overton place near Nashville, Tenn. resulting in the capture of a quantity of property belonging to United States Citizens. This property having been disposed of by Capt. Perkins to certain citizens in the vicinity of Hillsborough. On whose premises and in whos possession portions of it was found. They are hereby ordered to pay overto Mr. C.S. Stevens owner of the captured property, within the period of three days the assesments opposite their respective names. Henry Maberry and Marcus Maberry 6,000. Dr. George Hunter 2,500. John A. Wilkins 1,000. Prior Smith 800...." Fold separation, else about VG. (2 items)
