A good war-date Union soldier's letter, 2pp. 4to., written in ink by Pvt. Lewis Plett, Co. F, 15th United States Regular Infantry, Lookout Mountain, Oct. 29, 1864 concerning his service in the Atlanta campaign, in part: "…we are in camp on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee and the army is in very good health…we stood the Atlanta campaign first rate…we had to expose ourselves to all kind of weather and the enemy to. We left Graysville on the 5th of last May…on the 7th we encountered the Rebels at Tunnel Hill when the campaign begun and on the first of September we took Atlanta and Jonesboro 15 miles south…on the 7th of August we stormed the Rebel's picket line and took every man on the line…we had a good many of our men wounded in the attack. I was wounded in the left foot [which] disabled me for a month and half before I could put my shoe on…this is my last day fore the army and tomorrow morning I am to start home. I have served three years in full today…PLUS; a 2pp. 4to. letter written by Lewis's sister on Nov. 1, 1863 in which she mentions her soldier brother. VG. (2 pieces).
