DEVENS, Charles (1820-1891)Union general, who as colonel was struck in the chest by a rifle ball at Ball's Bluff, as general led commands during the Peninsular campaign and was again wounded, also led a command at Chancellorsville, where he was again wounded and was crushed by Jackson's flanking movement. Later command a division in the Army of the James 1864-65, and became Attorney General under Hayes.Autograph "Chas. Devens. Atty Gen. U.S." Mounted, else VG.
