Autograph Document Signed, "C.G. Pabcock Capt. 94th NYS Pro. Marshal, 3rd Div…" 1p. quarto, Manchester, Va. April 2, 1865, and reads: "….I do hereby certify that I have expended as Pro. Marshal six (6) pairs handcuffs (old) one pair broken on a soldier executed for deserter and five (5) pairs on soldiers sent off under sentence of Court Martial…" Fine. The executed soldier was Frederick W. Brandt, 27, a Prussian miller, private in Company E, 81st New York Infantry, executed after twice deserting on March 26, 1865, before Richmond.
