MITCHELL, William Galbraith (1836-1883), served prominently with General Hancock at the Battles of Gettysburg, The Wilderness and Spotsylvania, rising to Lieutenant Colonel. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "distinguished and most valuable services during the war." A pair of Documents Signed, "W.G. Mitchell," as aide to Major General Hancock, both being Special orders for Courts Marshall, April and July 1879, fine.
