A nice war-date 1/9th plate ruby-red ambrotype of an armed Southern volunteer who holds a model 1842 musket across his chest. Our young soldier wears an early war McDowell style slouch hat with an embroidered insignia of an eagle with up-stretched wings. The image originated in Alabama and is perhaps the sitter was a member of that state's volunteers. Housed in a full generic design floral composition case. Negligible solarization, else VG.
