An unusually posed war-date scene of four 2nd Massachusetts Volunteer officers who in New York City during the draft riots in 1863 and had this image taken. Depicted is the regiment's Adjutant John Andrew Fox; Capt. William E. Perkins, WIA Chancellorsville; Capt. Daniel Oakey, WIA Cedar Mountain; and Capt. Francis W. Crowninshield WIA Winchester, Antietam, Gettysburg and Roccoon Creek. Postwar cabinet card size photograph, approximate 3 1/2" x 3 3/4" on larger mount by Marshall with the sitter's names in contemporary ink at the bottom of the mount and dated August 1863. A great image of a group of men who all witnessed the horrors of Gettysburg only to be called to help sequel one of the North's most deadly riots during the war in New York City less than a month after the epic battle.
