It is accompanied by a 1994 letter from "Robert White Appraisals" stating that this flag was once owned by Mrs. Alice Pierpoint (authored "Reuben Vaughan Kidd, Soldier of the Confederacy") who claimed that was the property of Captain Reuben Vaughan Kidd, Company A, 4th Alabama Infantry, C.S.A. Kidd was killed Chickamauga. The Second National Flag, or the Stainless Banner, was the replacement for the Stars and Bars. It was adopted in May of 1863. One of the first flags produced was used to cover the casket of Lieutenant General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, and is today on display at the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond.
