Published by New York Education Department, the Lincoln birthplace cabin photographic slide shows an outdoor image of the rustic birthplace. RP, B/W, fine.A few months before Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, his parents and sister moved from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, to Sinking Spring Farm. His father paid $200 for 348 acres of stony ground on the south fork of Nolin Creek. The farm's name came from a spring on the property which emerged from a deep cave. The area was established by Congress as a National Historic Site on July 17, 1916. An early 19th century Kentucky cabin, symbolic of the one in which Lincoln was born, is preserved in a memorial building at the site of his birth.
