According to the definitive resource reference book "Lincoln in photographs", it is not positively known who took the photograph of Lincoln. But, it was probably taken between March 1, 1861 and June 30, 1861. This image is known with photographers imprint of Fredericks of New York, Germon of Philadelphia, and McClees of Philadelphia (Which back mark this image has). This excellent example of what is also known as the "Speed Photograph" (Lincoln gave a signed example of the image to a family member of James Speed, his Attorney General), and has excellent tone and detail. Just one tiny nick at the very top right corner of the albumin, which does not affect the overall presentation of the CDV. A wonderful example of a classic Lincoln image.
