MAY 12, 1705 dated, original, single sheet (8 x 14 both sides) printed English "Coffee House" news sheet (newspaper) double columns both sides. Bold headlines "The Rehearsal of Observator" and six smaller (typeset) sub-headlines, one of which is "THE STORY OF PHILIP LEVI A JEW." Gossipy / local, newsy articles; the PHILIP LEVI story "…a very learned Jew whom we got to teach Hebrew at our private academy at Shrewsbury…gave him a good pension and were kind to him, but minded not his conversion…and he was baptized in church at Shrewsbury…immediately upon which, WE TURNED HIM OFF, as did the Jews at London for a Deserter." Article relates after trials, travails and fundraising for him he was accepted at OXFORD, with many attending to his "…rabbinical learning" out of spite to those who first accepted and converted him! Normal aging; the lower blank margin possibly slightly trimmed, otherwise exc. and all intact. Fascinating reading
