Beautifully penned single sheet (8 x 10) letter to Isaac Leeser/Phila. from his Macon agent L. HIRSCHBERG ordering many and varied of Leeser's books and requesting that "…names of the owners please have impressed on the covers." Also writes of other orders and requests: "six Hebrew readers please send me…with bill along." Further advises he "just returned from abroad and have done some good for you by taking orders…" His return address and date he wrote this letter (at top) are penned in Hebrew letters with a small Hebrew note after his signature. Specifically mentions that "all parties [who purchase these books] are living in Macon, Georgia." Exc.+; minor repair to small piece on right blank margin only. (Point of interest: note that in describing the Macon Jewish community circa 1850's that "When the Civil War broke out, there was an artillery company in Macon called the "Macon German Artillery" consisting of citizens born in Germany. "About a third of the company were Jews…" Accompanied with photostat of that information in the "Jewish Encyclo")
