HENRY M. PHILLIPS OF PHILA. (1811-1884). 8 ½ x 11 printed and ink completed document of a U.S. Custom House Broker of Phila. handling the "Entry of Merchandise" (fancy bold type) for items imported by Henry M. Phillips on a vessel just arrived from Leghorn Italy to Phila. dated June 25, 1873 itemizing "one case containing a piece of furniture" (obviously for his personal use). Attached is 6 x 10 printed form, (in English) ink completed at the "Port of Leghorn" for that same furniture "Bound for Phila." on the "Ship Arturo". Light aging; exc. With fine bio sketch of Phillips who served in Congress 1857-59 during Buchanan administration during which Phillips was prominent by his discussions and speech favoring the entry of Kansas as a slave state; a speech widely printed and circulated; very active in Phila. civic and Jewish organizations…
