(1) Letter by Rabbi Marcus Jastrow on printed letterhead from "Germantown, Pa Sept., 1890" to George Randorf of Philadelphia an officer of "Association of Jewish Immigrants" and associate of Jastrow, who writes: "Dr. Danziger of San Francisco sent me [a small sum] for his brother as he could not take him to his house not being of sufficient independence himself…says his brother is quite a Talmudic scholar and might be a welcome addition…at the N.Y. Theological Seminary. Will you be kind enough to see Dr. Morais about him?...He [believes] Charles Hoffman will take an interest in him…[also tell your son] I shall be pleased to see him at our school…[and] introduce him to Hoffman." …(2) Letter in the hand of and signed by "Dr. G. A. Danziger / San Francisco Oct. 25, 1890" to "Rev. Dr. M. Jastrow" (Phila.). He opens: "My poor brother writes…you did not give him the $10 but you gave [it] to the Baron Hirsch fund…you certainly did my brother wrong for it seems he had to beg a few cents from a man, Randorf. I do not know what to think of the matter. Consulted my father-in-law M. B. Levi and he told me to write you. If I were able I would take him to San Francisco but I am not and it hurts me to think that the money I sent the poor boy should have been [deceitfully] used for 'charity'…" (3) U.S. postal card by Jastrow from Germantown, Sept. 12, 1890 to George Randorf at Phila. advising he had not yet heard from Danziger and "As soon as I receive the money I shall forward it to you with whatever instructions [you offer] for the transport of Mr. D's brother. I believe it is safe to provide for [his] needs. As much as I know Dr. D. is a gentleman of best repute in San Fran." All three items exc.+. Accompanied with a group of photostats from various Jewish works regarding the three men. Jastrow was rabbi of Rodeph Shalom, Phila., active and important in many Jewish organizations and author of many scholarly works. Danziger noted for his many articles to Jewish periodicals and newspapers in Calif. especially one on pioneering aspects of Jewish life in San Fran. All three
