are the words used by N.Y. attorney Charles Dushkind on his two page typed letter (with printed letterhead) Jan. 16, 1903 to Judge Mayer Sulzberger of Phila. prominent in Jewish immigration matters. Dushkind in sends two documents to the Judge for review (both of which enclosed with this), most important is the large printed 8 x 16 petition (blank reverse) to the "Commissioner of General Immigration, Washington, D.C.," dated N.Y. Jan. 8, 1903 with printed signatures of 6 prominent "Grand Masters" of various Jewish fraternal orders. Dushkind writes: "This [petition] will give you some idea as to existing conditions" all of which are described at great length. Second printed document (8 ½ x 13) a set of "Resolutions" sent throughout U.S. to all Jewish societies; both of which, Dushkind writes "…will be submitted to the President as well as to Congress…these steps were taken only after carefully investigating methods employed on [Ellis] Island and firmly convinced that wholesale deportations…were not due to mere errors in judgment but…due to adoption of a new policy to reduce volume of immigration…you will undoubtedly read from between the lines and which we have purposefully omitted in our desire to make our protests as mild as possible…" All exc.+ and better. A significant insight into the impending crisis at that moment
