Neatly penned one page letter with full signature "SAMUEL STERNBERGER" on printed letterhead of his "STERNBERGER & CO. / MAKERS OF 'ECLIPSE' SHIRTS / PHILA." Feb. 16, 1905 to "Judge Sulzberger" (prominent in local and national Jewish affairs). He offers judge "…the choice of two methods; a straight-out contribution…or yearly contribution of $100. I would prefer to give it without being known except to you" with the reminder "…a bird in hand is worth two in the bush." (Sternberger's wife displayed greater Judaic interest as chairwoman of the Phila. "Jewish Maternity Association."). ACCOMPANIED BY second letter by Sternberger 4 days later to Sulzberger advising enclosure of check for the full amount and "Please keep its origin secret…" Both letters exc. +…..
