Letter, 3pp., address panel, from Danville, Jan. 30th, 1850. The writer describes in considerable detail, being on a fox hunt. His description is fascinating covering 2 pages. In small part, "The notice is given the evening before the intended hunt ... & the next morning you are aroused before daylight by the niggers .... everyone seemed to consider it his peculiar duty to make the most noise and confusion. The shouts, orders, blowing horns, yelling of the niggers, and bellowing of the dogs so astounded me ... that I remained silent. ... The dogs and horns in full blast will excite a horse, especially one accustom to the chase & knowing its object, so he seems as much interested as the rider ... After my pony was clearly in the chase, he was perfectly insane & took the reins & the choice of path, all to himself, as if the rider's will was of no account."
