A complete issue of Harper’s Weekly, October 12, 1872, 16pp., plus 8pp supplement, disbound, VG. From the interior two strong wood cuts, “Mississippi Ku-Klux in the Disguises in Which They Were Catured [From a Photograph,” and “One Vote Less.” These are presented in the middle of a lengthy report, “The Ku-Klux Conspiracy. On the facing page, another outrageous event is illustrated with caption, “H(orace). G(reeley).’LET US CLASP HANDS OVER THE BLOODY CHASM.’—[See Page 803.] “A Great Victory has been won in Georgia…..The verdict in Georgia is certainly conclusive.”—New York Tribune, October 3, 1872. The engraving shows whites shooting blacks stopping those blacks from voting in the 1872 Georgia election.
