Broadside Extra, June 4, 1861, Concord (New Hampshire), 6 ½" x 12 5/8", excellent. Excellent content broadside extra providing the latest news of the newly started Civil War, with Harpers Ferry and Manassas Junction content, as well as announcing the death of Senator Stephen Douglas of Illinois. Douglas, Lincoln 1860 Presidential opponent, had recently died. The broadside states that "buildings are draped in mourning in consequence of the death of Senator Douglas" in Washington, D.C. The broadside also states that his remains are expected in Washington, D.C. for burial in the Congressional burying ground. Douglas was eventually buried in Illinois. There is also news about skirmishes in Falls Church, Va., reports that there are 3,000-4,000 Rebel troops at Fairfax Court House, and fighting at Phillippa, Va. A great piece of early Civil War news.
