Legal Document Signed, “Otto A. Moses” 2pp. folio, March 14, 1874, Charelston, South Carolina, being a legal case where Moses is defendent and being sued for an unpaid invoice by J. Evans Britton, Proprietor of the Charleston Republican. During this case Moses was defended by the politically connected firm of Simons & Simons, headed by General James Simons. Fine condition.Otto A. Moses (1846-1906) Graduate of the University of Leipsic, and introduced most of the Edison inventions in Europe. For some time he was State Geologist of South Carolina and general supervisor of the phosphate works. Dr. Moses was founder of the Hebrew Techinical Institute and was actively involved in the Montefiore Home, the Hebrew Orphan Asylum and other charities.James Simons (1813-1879) was speaker of the house in the South Carolina legislature when the Civil War began. During the war, he served as brigadier general of the South Carolina Militia Fourth Infantry Brigade. After the war, he and his son, James, Jr. (1839 1919) practiced law in Charleston as Simons and Simons.
