Authenticate issue of the Niles Weekly, Baltimore, February 7, 1835. 16., disbound, VG. From the interior “Attempt To Assassinate The President,” runs 2-1/4 pages. this is very lengthy for the Niles Weekly which is noted for its concise reporting. The report describes the attempt on President Jackson in detail. In small part, “The President ... came into the portico of the capitol from the rotunda, a person stepped forward ... and snapped a pistol at him, the percussion cap of which exploded without igniting the charge. .... snapped a second pistol at the President. The cap of that lock also exploded without igniting the charge. ... The perpetrator of this outrage was of course seized and taken into custody. ..”
