Photograph Signed “Bobby Thomson” and “Ralph Branca.” Black & white, 9.75” x 7.75”. Printed on lightweight photographic paper. Fine condition. Bobby Thomson (1923-2010) hit what is perhaps the most famous home run in baseball history. His dramatic “shot heard ‘round the world” on October 3, 1951, a three-run, bottom of the ninth-inning homer off Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Ralph Branca (born 1926), gave the New York Giants a 5-4 victory in game three of the National League playoffs, capping the Giants’ historic comeback to win the National League pennant. This photograph pictures Thomson a split second after he swung at Branca’s pitch.
