War-date Confederate Document Signed “Mitchell Le Flore Major, Choctaw & Chickasaw Regt. Mtd. Rifles, CSA” 1pp. oblong octavo, Buck Creek, Choctaw Nation, May 2, 1862, being a receipt “Of Walnor Simms” for bed quilts “for the use & benefit of the Choctaw & Chickasaw Regt. Mtd. Rifles CSA.” Attetested to by James Thompson, 1st Lt and Acting Adjutant of Co. K, Mtd. Rifles CSA.” Fine condition.Several reasons explain why the Indians sided with the Confederacy: (1) They believed the United States was on the verge of collapse, (2) They were neglected by the United States, (3) William H. Seward, the United States Secretary of State, advocated the seizing of Indian lands, (4) Their main agent was an advocate for the South, and (5) Their laws supported slavery.
