RODENBOUGH, Theophilus Francis (1838-1912) was born in Easton, Pennsylvania and was a Union Army officer during the American Civil War. He received America's highest military decoration the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Trevilian Station. After his retirement from the U.S. Army in 1870, he wrote several books about military history.War-date Union officer Autograph Letter Signed by Theophilus Francis Rodenbough, 2pp. quarto, Ebbit House, Washington D.C., September 7, 1862, and reads in part: “... last Sunday afternoon in a skirmish near Centerville I was taken prisoner by the enemy and am now on parole. It is probable that an exchange will be affected very soon and it is necessary that I remain to attend to it...I was not injured in any way although the bullets flew around our heads thick as hail...” Fine condition.
