Signed carte de visite of Union brevet Brigadier General Embury Durfree Osband (1832-1866) who enlisted as captin in August 1861 with the 4th Illinois Cavalry and would rise to rank of colonel while commanding the 3rd United States Colored Cavalry. He was brevetted brigadier general in October 1864. Nice bold signature “E.D. Osband” beneath this image of the general in uniform. Fine condition.Recruited from Vicksburg in the late fall of 1863, the 3rd U.S. Colored Cavalry became the first African-American cavalry regiment to serve the U.S. military.
