Rare Union soldier Prisoner of War Autograph Letter Signed by Lt. Oliver R. McNary, 103rd Pennsylvania Infantry, who was captured at Plymouth, North Carolina on April 20, 1864 and confined at the prisoner camp in Columbia, South Carolina and Fort Macon, Georgia. This letter is 1pp. octavo, pencil, datelined "Prisoners Camp Macon, Geo., May 22, 1864, with cover addressed to his wife, franked at top right corner "Lt. O.R. McNary Prisoner of War." and "Old Point Comfort" ink date stamp, it reads in part: "...I am still a prisoner of war. Am quite well and getting along well. There are 1000 officers here at this time including those formerly at Libby Prions Richmond amongst whom I found George - Lt. Hammond of the Valentine House & Lt. Wilson Paxton of Cannosburg...We get rations and are allowed to buy such things as we wish. Have been well treated thus far. Write to me a short letter on one page and address to me. Prisoner of War. Macon, Geo. and put a Confederate stamp and enclose it in another envelope- both envelopes open..." Fine condition.
