IMBODEN, John Daniel (1823-1895), American lawyer, Virginia state legislator, slaveowner and a Confederate army general. During the American Civil War, he commanded an irregular cavalry force. After the war, he resumed practicing law, became a writer, and was active in land development founding the town of Damascus, Virginia.War-date Confederate Autograph Endorsement Signed "Hd qrs Val. Dist. Mar. 24, 1864, Respfy returned for the information of Col. Comdg 31st Va. Regt. This man's name is dropped from roles of the 62d Rept. J.D. Imboden Brig. Gen." on verso of Special Order issued by the Department of Northern Virginia, February 8, 1864, 1pp. quarto, and signed twice by Walter Taylor, AAG for General Robert E. Lee, who returns the document to General Ewell.
