Raynors 2020-05 Putnal
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/30/2020
A very rare pair of war-date partly-printed 1p. 4to., death certificates attesting that Pvt. J. M. Bolling, Co. I, Palmetto Sharpshooter Regiment South Carolina was killed in action at Petersburg June 19, 1864, and that his family is due his pay up to that date. Interestingly, Bolling is recorded as being only 16 at the time of his enlistment and just over five feet tall. The Palmetto Sharpshooter fought faithfully throughout the war, and fought in the battles of Antietam, Fredericksburg, and the Wilderness. Somewhat light with minor paper loss, and damp staining, else very good.
