War-date Document Signed "J.S. Holmes" 1pp. small quarto, Head Quarters U.S. Forces, Thomasville, Georgia, May 24, 1864, being a parole for this 4th Virginia Cavalry private. Authorized by Lt. Thoms. Scott by "order of Brig. Gen. E.M. McCook." It reads in small part: "..I, the undersigned J.S. Holmes a Private of the 4 Regiment of Ga. Cavalry do solemnly swear that I will not bear arms against the United States of America, or give any information, or do any military duty whatsoever until regularly exchanged as a prisoner of war...." Very good condition.
