ROSSER, Thomas Lafayette "Tex" (1836-1910) was a Confederate major general during the American Civil War, and later a railroad construction engineer and in 1898 a brigadier general of volunteers in the United States Army during the Spanish-American War. A favorite of J.E.B. Stuart, he was noted for his daring cavalry raids, efficiency in handling combat troops, and tactical brilliance.War-date Confederate general Autograph Letter Signed "T.L. Rosser" 1pp. folio, Hd Qtrs Cav. Division, docketed May 12, 1865, addressed "Col." it reads in most part: "...I called up to see you today upon this subject of paroling the men of your Brig. but not seeing you left instructions with Capt. Emmet (his AAG) which I hope you have received. I desire you to see Col. Stratton who has been sent up from Richmond to take charge of such property as I may have here to turn over to the U.S. authorities etc. and make the necessary arrangements with him for the accomplishment of this object. You will find him at Gen. Duval's office. Do all you can to have all public property turned over to the US Authorities. You can have everything in the way of arms, etc. turned over to Col. Bauldwin Ord Officer of the AN Va and by him they can be delivered to the US Authorities and receipt for which receipts please with the duplicate parole send to me by Col. ball at Hanover Courthouse..."
